          During the Berlin memorial activity what I learned was how many things were taken away from Jewish people through the years of 1933-1945. Some things that were taken away from the Jews were their jobs. Since the Jews lost their jobs their was no income meaning people didn't have much money. The Jews gradually as time went on lost about everything, the Jews had lost not only their jobs but some necessities they needed to have to stay alive such as milk and eggs. The Jew had also lost some ways that they would be entertained or ways that they would be able to have fun like going to a pool or going to see an opera.

          I think that the monument was built to teach younger people learning about the holocaust that this was real and some of the laws etc. I also think that this monument was built to help commemorate all of the people who died during the holocaust considering how Berlin is the capital and thats were most of the laws were made and the decisions that Hitler made were also made there.

           A pattern that I noticed with the laws are that each of them have one huge thing happening in the same year which could potentially change or affect the laws that came out. I think that Hitler mainly started to slowly strip away rights from the Jews slowly because he didn't want to make it look like he hated them out of no where. I noticed that in the year 1933 Hitler joined so when he first came in he wanted to show how he would become powerful so he striped the Jews of SOME rights.

          I think that something that would be hard for me to deal with is the law on Animals saying how any Jewish person couldn't own any pets. I think this because personally my dog is the love of my life. I feel like if someone were to take it away I would be really sad and mad because its mine so why would you take it away? I mean it could be worse for example the Nazi's taking away my family members or taking me away however it is kind of similar in away because
both for me are family.  

New Year New Me (2nd quarter reflection)

          I think that one of the  biggest improvements I made throughout quarter 2 would have to be doing good on vocabulary tests. I think that I've made a bug improvement in this section because so far I've received only threes and fours meaning that if it were to be a letter grade it would probably be a B. I think that I also improved in this section because I've been using good studying strategies which possibly will be able to aid me in the future.

          Something that I have accomplished that I am very proud of is having the courage to take a placement test at Nazareth. I am very proud of this because before I was very nervous because I had never taken a test so hard however all of the practice test have he helped prepare me in ways I didn't think it could. I think I did good on the test which I am very proud of because of all the practicing.

            I think that the most challenging part of 2nd quarter has been keeping up with the To Kill A Mockingbird readings. I think this because at times it was really hard to keep on reading so many pages everyday. I did keep up with the readings however it was tiring at times but I kept up so I'm proud of that. In conclusion I think that to prevent getting tired I will start reading more pages everyday.

Book: To Kill A MockingBird

         I think one of the biggest differences between the written and movie version of To Kill A Mockingbird is how Aunt Alexandra isn't in the movie. In the book Aunt Alexandra plays a huge role as basically Scout and Jem's mother. The children at first don't like her however soon begin to like her and see her ways. In the movie Miss Maudie takes Aunt Alexandra's place and takes that role as a mother possibly because the movie producers didn't find her role that important however she is important. In the book Aunt Alexandra teaches Scout to be a bit more feminism and teaches Scout to be more ladylike. In the movie Scout doesn't have aunt Alexandra there so she never learns this lesson meaning that Scout could have never been taught how to be lady like which could have changed her life.

          I think that the purpose of them having multiple versions of To Kill A Mockingbird is to get the strong story out more. In the movie "To Kill A Mockingbird" the children don't really interact with black people as much as they do in the book. When the children go with their father to go tell Hellen about how Atticus will be taking up the case Bob Ewell comes out of nowhere and stares at the children in the car and they zoom on his face etc. This is the first time the children interact with Boo Radley and black people which is huge! The children interact with Black people in the book when they go to the church with Calpurnia which is pretty important because they get to see a different side of racism coming from a black person.

• What you are reading is going to be made into a movie. Make a list of three

characters that you think would be good for the roles that you will chose...

If I were to pick the cast for TKAM it would be defiantly very hard. One Character I would chose to play Atticus is Mathew Mcconaughey. I would pick him because I feel like he can deliver that strong attitude that will help him be powerful in the court scene which is a very dramatic scene. He has been in a previous production where he is a lawyer thus giving me the inspiration the cast him as the lawyer (Atticus). When I picture Atticus I picture this tall slim man who has this very powerful voice and I feel like he fits the bill.

Another Character that I chose to pick the actor of is Calpurnia. I feel like a good actress to play Calpurnia would be Octavia Spencer. The reason why I picked her is because of her previous role in the movie "The Help". In her previous role she played a maid which I believe is similar to Calpurnia. I chose her because in the movie she is very sassy and gives very good lessons and one of the scenes that I feel she would do very well in is when Calpurnia takes the children to go to church. In conclusion I feel like Octavia Spencer would do really well as the character of Calpurnia.

My final actor that I would chose would be for the character Boo. I think a character that I would like to have play Boo is Johnny Depp. I would pick Johnny

Johnny Depp because in some movies such as "Alice in Wonderland" when Johnny Deep played the creepy  Mad Hatter.  In the Book the children describe Boo to be very creepy and I think Johny Deep can do that wonderful. Later on in the book we see the real truth about Boo and judging from Johnny Deep's prior movies I know he can play a nice kindhearted person such as Edward Scissorhands.

Tkam- Charecter relationships

I will juxtapose Aunt Alexandra and Atticus.

       
  Some similarities between Aunt Alexandra and Atticus is how they both somewhat want the best for the children. In the book the children are taught to read and also write in cursive at a very young age. I believe that this helps show the connection to Aunt Alexandra because what she wants to do is be the Female that Scout can look up to. I think that both of the characters don't really have a lot in common with each other because in the book the two characters seem to clash with each other a bit.

          Some differences that the characters have are is how Atticus a lot less racist then how Aunt Alexandra is. In the book Atticus teaches the kids how being different is a good thing and how to not judge people by there appearance. In lieu Aunt Alexandra is more ruthless and only cares about what she things instead of what others think. In the book she judges Calpurnia for the way that she looks and acts.

          Atticus has a very interesting relationship with Scout in the book they both enjoy each-others company however can sometimes bump heads however its like any other family relationship. The relationship that Scout has with Aunt Alexandra is defiantly more negative. In the book Aunt Alexandra is very demanding and I don't think that Scout likes her because she describes her like Mount Everest, cold and there.

          The effects that Aunt Alexandra has made on Scout are more negative. So far in the book Aunt Alexandra has slowly been striping the children away there freedom. I believe this because in the book when Scout and Jem wan't to go visit Calpurnia Aunt Alexandra immediately says no in a rude way thus leaving me to believe that Scout doesn't really like her. Atticus has left more of a positive effect on Scout. Atticus cares more for Scout mainly because that's his daughter and because she is the youngest. In the book Atticus gives Scout more freedom and advocates that she goes and explore and have fun and isn't as strict as Aunt  Alexandra.

Prompt: You will be selecting a photograph that represents your idea of Maycomb, AL based on Harper Lee’s description.

Incorporating the different criteria from the Visual Literacy Guide, write a thoughtful, thorough, and well constructed response relating the photograph to Maycomb, AL.

In the photo I chose I can observe a number of different things that remind me of the books description of Maycomb. One of the things that I observe from the photo is a damaged building. This reminds me of the town Maycomb because in the book it says "Maycomb was an old town, but it was a tired old town when I knew it." (P.6). I believe that this quote helps represents Maycomb because this town in the photo looks a bit old in my opinion.! I belong eve this because on the side of the building you can see like warn out stains etc. In the picture I can also see a Coca-Cola sign in the back so by seeing this I can infer that this is almost like downtown. In the book it says "Go and eat downtown today" (P.25) based on this quote I can almost picture Walter running down this place to eat where the Coca-Cola sign is.

I think that this photo was made possibly for advertisement. I think this because in the photo they are taking pictures of possibly "main attractions" or the local areas to eat at. I believe that the audience that this photo was mainly targeted for is basically everyone because anyone can move anywhere if they really need to. If someone were to recreate this photo today I feel like there will obviously much more color in the photo. I think that there would also be new cars and people dressed in more modern clothing.

One question that I had from looking at the photo was what is Grady Lawless and Co. I think that this could be where Atticus might have worked at. I believe this because from our previous knowledge we know how Scout's father was a lawyer. This was one of the reasons why I picked this location. Another question that I also have is why is everyone in the photo African American. I understand how this was in the south however why aren't their any caucasian people in the photo.

Theme Development Blog...

Theme Blog- Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie 
Propmt:Your blog for your 40 Book Challenge this week will focus on theme. You will need to determine a theme and analyze its development throughout the novel. By looking closely at character's actions, the setting, plot events, and/or the conflict, you can identify clues that are written by the author to help teach you (the reader) a message about life or human nature. Start first by looking at your 'Universal Theme' sheet to help you get started.

          The book Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie, by Jordan Sonnenblick is a book that conveys many themes throughout the book however one that is major is family comes first. I believe that this is one of the themes in the book because in the book Steven (the main character) is faced to deal with his brothers medical issue (leukemia). In the book Steven now has his brother in the back of his mind because he feels like it's his fault however Jeffery his brother has been diagnosed with this disease before hand. In conclusion Steven actually helped because if it wasn't for him his parents wouldn't have known about it. There are many ways that the author tells this theme to us, "The longer I pretended like everything was normal at school, the more I believed everything was normal." (P.52).  I believe that this quote helps represent how family always comes first is because he was constantly worried on how his brother Jeffery was/is doing. 

          Another theme that I find important in the book is neglect. I find this quote important because in the book the parents seem to be in their own world. In the book the mother says, how could she not realize her poor baby was limping all this time. I also believe this is important because in the book the character Steven is longing for contact with his father. His mother has now left with Jeffery to go see a doctor leaving Steven and his father in a house alone. Steven says in the book "Dad, how about sometime this week, just for kicks, you try making eye contact with me." (P. 58). I find this important because in the book Steven has no way to let out his emotions besides drumming and because of this thats the only way he can vent. I think that this is sort of unhealthy because Steven and his father should be able to talk about important things like his brother having Leukemia and reassuring Steven that it will all be okay.
